There have been many leaders throughout history, but the Rebbe of Lubavitch was different. He did not command armies or hold political titles, yet his influence reached every corner of the world. His leadership was not based on power but on love, faith, and a far-reaching vision.
The Rebbe didn’t just speak about change—he made it happen. He sent thousands of emissaries to the farthest places on earth, encouraged every Jew to bring more light into the world, and instilled in us a simple yet powerful understanding: every individual has the ability to make a difference. To him, no Jew was ever “too far.” Every person was precious, with a unique purpose and mission.
His vision was clear: to transform the world into a better place, to strengthen Jewish identity, and to bring us closer to the era of redemption. He didn’t wait for people to come to him—he reached out to them. He corresponded with thousands, established institutions, and inspired men and women of all ages to take responsibility for their lives and infuse them with meaning.
But above all, the Rebbe gave us a great gift—the belief in ourselves. He saw potential in the businessman, the student, the child, and the elder alike. He taught that each person is a “shliach”—an emissary capable of illuminating their surroundings with goodness and holiness.
This Shabbat, we mark Yud Shevat, the day the Rebbe accepted the mantle of leadership. It is not just a time for remembrance, but a moment to rededicate ourselves to the mission he entrusted us with: to add one more mitzvah, strengthen another Jew, and spread goodness in the world.
