We want to share a moving story that bridges past, present, and future in a remarkable way.
This Thursday, December 19, at Chabad, we will celebrate the Bar Mitzvah of Yonatan Spitzer, a special milestone in the life of a young Jewish boy. What makes this moment even more meaningful is the story behind the tefillin Yonatan will wear for the first time that day.
These are no ordinary tefillin. They are an inheritance from his great-grandfather, Moshe Schwartz, a Holocaust survivor who endured the horrors of labor camps. Moshe passed away at the age of 102, sharp and full of faith, and put on these very tefillin every day until his last.
The connection between Yonatan and his great-grandfather is extraordinary. Moshe not only knew Yonatan, but he left a deep and lasting impression on him. Now, Yonatan is excited to honor Moshe’s legacy, continuing his journey of faith and strength through these tefillin.
This story touches us all. It is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit, the power of faith, and the enduring impact of a meaningful legacy.
We invite you to join us this Thursday morning, December 19, at 9:30 AM for Shacharit and to be part of this special moment.
Next Shabbat, December 21, we will celebrate Yonatan’s Bar Mitzvah with a special event at the synagogue, where we’ll share the full story of Moshe Schwartz—a story of survival, courage, and inspiration for us all.
